How to rectify income tax return

To rectify an Income Tax Return (ITR) for mistakes apparent from the record, you can file a rectification request under Section 154 of the Income Tax Act. This can be done only after your return is processed. Steps to file:

• Log in to the income tax e-filing portal.
• Go to Services and select Rectification.
• Click New Request, select Income Tax and the relevant Assessment Year.
• Choose the rectification type: Reprocess the Return, Tax Credit Mismatch Correction, or Return Data Correction.
• Submit the request and e-verify to complete the process.
