Electricity Bill

What is a unit in electricity?

A unit of electricity refers to one kilowatt-hour (kWh). This means if you use an appliance that consumes 1 kilowatt of power for 1 hour, you have used 1 unit. It is the standard way of measuring electricity consumption. For example, if a 100-watt bulb runs for 10 hours, it uses 1 unit. Every device in your home has a power rating, and the meter records how much electricity is being used. At the end of the billing cycle, the total units consumed are shown on your bill. The more appliances you use or the longer you use them, the higher your units and final bill will be.
