The authority responsible for issuing a driving licence in India is the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) or the District-level Regional Transport Office (RTO). Eligibility depends on the vehicle type:

• For gearless two-wheelers up to 50cc, the applicant must be at least 16 years old with parent/guardian consent.
• For light motor vehicles (LMV) and other motorcycles, the minimum age is 18 years.
• For transport vehicles, the minimum age is generally 20 years.
