when to renew driving licence

The renewal period depends on your licence type:

• A private (non-transport) driving licence is valid for 20 years or until the holder turns 40, whichever is earlier.
• After age 40, private licences typically require renewal every 5 to 10 years.
• Commercial or transport vehicle licences must be renewed every 3 years.
