Credit Score

Do medical bills affect your credit score?

Medical bills do not directly affect your credit score as healthcare providers typically do not report to credit bureaus like CIBIL. However, your score can be negatively impacted in the following ways:
  • If you use a credit card or personal loan to pay the bills and fail to make timely repayments.
  • If the hospital hands over long-overdue unpaid debt to a collection agency, which may then report the default to credit bureaus.
  • High utilization of your credit limit to cover medical expenses can also lower your score.
