Who can cross a cheque

As per Section 125 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, the following parties are authorized to cross a cheque:
  • The Drawer: The person who issues the cheque can cross it generally or specially.
  • The Holder: If a cheque is uncrossed, the holder may cross it generally or specially. If it is already crossed generally, the holder may cross it specially.
  • The Banker: A banker to whom a cheque is specially crossed may cross it again specially to another banker or their agent for collection.
