CTS (Cheque Truncation System) is an image-based clearing mechanism introduced by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for faster cheque processing. Instead of physically moving paper cheques from one bank branch to another, a digital image is captured and transmitted electronically.
Benefits of CTS cheques include:
- Faster clearing cycles, often allowing same-day or next-day fund realization.
- Enhanced security features that minimize the risk of fraud, tampering, or loss during transit.
- Standardized "CTS-2010" benchmarks like watermarks and bank logos in invisible ink.
