A bank passbook number is the unique identification number assigned to a customer's bank account, prominently printed on the front page of the physical passbook. This number, often ranging from 11 to 16 digits in India, acts as a financial fingerprint to identify the account holder and track all transactions.
In addition to the account number, a passbook typically contains:
- Account holder’s name and address
- Bank branch name and address
- IFSC (Indian Financial System Code)
- Customer ID or CIF number
- A chronological record of all deposits, withdrawals, and interest earned
