When inserting your ATM or debit card into the machine, the general rule is to insert the side with the EMV chip facing up and pointing towards the ATM slot. If your card does not have a chip, or for older ATMs, insert the card with the magnetic stripe facing down or aligned according to any directional arrow printed on the card or the machine. For chip-based transactions, leave the card in the machine until the transaction is complete and the machine prompts you to remove it.
