The team of Rajakumaara getting together once again ensured there was a lot of hope on Yuvarathnaa. The story, which is set in a college campus, tries to put the spotlight on a lot of pertinent issues, like private institutions trying to make money in the form of education, corruption and even drug abuse. The film has a mix of mass elements with a lot of dialogues that try to preach righteousness. Does this mix work? It does to a major extent. Yuvarathnaa begins with the suicide of a meritorious student who succumbs to the ill will of money hungry businessmen and her principal using this to fight a battle against this. This micro fight is symbolic of the bigger threat looming large over private colleges trying to shadow government and government aided ones. In the midst of this scenario lands Arjun, who joins as an engineering student midway through the course. Who is he? What is his mission? What connects Arjun to this movement? Yuvarathnaa entertains fans and has an ample dose of action, sentiments, comedy and even a dash of romance. While this works fine, there could have been a tad more attention paid to the seasoning of this for it to emerge near perfect. There are ample characters and most of them do have something to do throughout. One wishes though that one or two of the prominent cast members had a little more fleshed out roles. For fans of the Power Star, this is a treat as it is a Puneeth Rajkumar show all the way. He gets to fight, dance, mouth strong lines and charm with his smile. And he does all of that effortlessly. Prakash Raj has the other most prominent role and he stands tall as expected. Dhananjaya and Saikumar too entertain, as does Diganth Manchale. The ensemble has a lot of known faces, be it Sonu Gowda, Sudharani, Vishaal Hegde, Achyuth Kumar or Prakash Belawadi and all of them deliver within their limited means. Yuvarathnaa, like Rajakumaara, is a tale about human values. This time, though, the backdrop is of a college campus. For those who like their masala entertainers, this one will not disappoint. The film does remind you of a few dramas set against the education system, especially in Tamil cinema, but Yuvarathnaa still has its own charm.Read more
