Born in Nepal, she established herself as one of the most talented actors in both Hindi and Tamil industries. Over the span of impressive filmography, she has delivered several notable performances. She debuted in Bollywood with Subhash Ghai directorial Saudagar in 1991. But it was Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s 1942: A Love Story (1994) and Mani Ratnam’s Tamil film Bombay (1995) which turned her into a superstar overnight. Adding another milestone in her inspiring career was Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s directorial debut Khamoshi: The Musical (1996) wherein she played a daughter to deaf and mute parents.
