While 'Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom' may not quite match the standards set by its predecessor, this film stands as a thrilling and action-packed adventure that justifies every cent of your ticket. In this sequel, the tone is a delightful blend of silliness and grit, taking audiences on a rollicking fantasy journey that proves to be an engaging cinematic experience. It's evident that the filmmakers have strived to maintain a high standard, and despite the hurdles, 'Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom' succeeds in delivering an entertaining ride. Director James Wan's meticulous craftsmanship is evident in every frame of the film, and the aquatic realm he has crafted can only be described as nothing short of fantastical. Whether it's the awe-inspiring aquatic creatures or the mesmerising world beneath the water's surface, both exude a sense of magnificence. In this film, Wan unveils a breathtaking and remarkably novel world that will certainly captivate the audience. Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa), now firmly established as the King of Atlantis, finds himself navigating a new role—one that involves not only his regular royal duties but also changing diapers. The tranquillity of the kingdom is shattered when his nemesis, David Kane (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), seizes the Black Trident and its formidable powers. Kane, fuelled by a desire for revenge over his father's demise, harnesses the Trident's might to escalate a global climate crisis, with the ultimate aim of resurrecting a long-lost aquatic kingdom. As chaos looms and Arthur's son becomes a target, Aquaman must confront this formidable foe. Jason Momoa once again brings a charismatic touch to the character, and James Wan skillfully draws out both the humour and emotional depth in Momoa's performance. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II commands the screen as the menacing Black Manta, embodying all the requisites of an arch-villain. Patrick Wilson, portraying Orm, offers stellar support to Arthur Curry's character. Keep an eye out for the scene that cleverly references 'Cast Away.' 'Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom' ticks all the boxes of a superhero film, delivering a larger-than-life world, a balanced mix of entertainment, action, and emotion. The ride is thoroughly enjoyable, enhanced by outstanding CGI and well-executed action sequences. Amidst the fantastical setting, the overarching theme of brotherhood adds an appealing layer.Read more
