Ajay Devgan (born Vishal Veeru Devgan on 2 April 1969),[2] also credited as Ajay Devgn,[3] is an Indian film actor, director and producer. He is widely considered as one of the most popular actors of Hindi cinema, who has appeared in over a hundred Hindi films.[4][5][6] Devgan has won numerous accolades, including two National Film Awards and four Filmfare Awards.[7][8] In 2016, he was honoured by the Government of India with the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian honour of the country.[9]

Recipient of the prestigious Padma Shri Award for her contribution to Indian cinema, Tabu’s film career spreads over two decades. She made her acting debut in 1991 with the Telugu film Coolie No. 1. Tabu is best known for movies like Maachis (1996), Kaalapaani (1996), Virasat (1997), Chandni Bar (2001), Maqbool (2003), Border (1997), Biwi No. 1 (1999), Chandni Bar (2001), Maqbool (2003), Cheeni Kum (2007), Haider (2014), Drishyam (2015) and Golmaal Again (2017). She has won the National Film Award for Best Actor twice. Interestingly, Tabu is the niece of the veteran actress Shabana Azmi.

DRISHYAM 2 is the story of a family in crisis. The year is 2021. 7 years have passed since the events of the first part. Vijay Salgaonkar (Ajay Devgn) has fulfilled his dream of opening a cinema hall. He still runs a cable network and resides in the same house at Pondolem, Goa. His elder daughter Anju (Ishita Dutta) is still traumatized over what unfolded 7 years ago and is seeking medical help. Vijay's wife Nandini (Shriya Saran) is quite concerned and fears that things can go wrong anytime. She finds a confidante in her neighbour, Jenny (Neha Joshi). Meanwhile, Tarun Ahlawat (Akshaye Khanna) is appointed as the new IG in Goa. He's a good friend of Meera Deshmukh (Tabu). She had settled in London and she and her husband Mahesh (Rajat Kapoor) return to Goa for their son's death anniversary. Tarun meets Meera; he also studies Vijay Salgaonkar's case and concludes that he's lying through his teeth. Of course, without concrete evidence, the police can't take any action. This is when Tarun chances upon an important clue. Soon, they get more information. Tarun and Meera are confident that this time, it’s time for Vijay Salgaonkar and his family to go to jail. What happens next forms the rest of the film.
DRISHYAM 2 is a remake of the 2021 Malayalam movie of the same name. Jeethu Joseph's story is incredible as it does total justice and takes the story forward very well. Aamil Keeyan Khan and Abhishek Pathak's screenplay is gripping and raises tension levels considerably. However, it’s too slow, especially in the initial and middle portions. Aamil Keeyan Khan's dialogues are simple but sharp.

Abhishek Pathak's direction is quite good, and he has improved a lot, compared to his last film, UJDA CHAMAN [2019]. He has added the required thrill, tension, and exhilaration in adequate doses. As a result, viewers will be glued to their seats from start to finish. He shows his brilliance in the climax.
On the flipside, the film suffers on account of the length. Nothing much happens in the first half. The intermission point comes too soon, and one might wonder if the film has anything worthwhile to offer after all. Secondly, a few cinematic liberties are hard to digest. Lastly, it’s very similar to the original version though thankfully, many haven't seen it.

DRISHYAM 2 begins on an intriguing note. The problems faced by Vijay and how residents of the town believe that he is the murderer is well depicted. A few scenes stand out in the first half like Anju's epilepsy episode, Anju confiding to Jenny, and Tarun's entry. The intermission point is unexpected and gives some indication that this film also is a roller coaster ride. Post interval, Tarun meeting Nandini and his daughters is memorable. But the best is reserved for the last 30 minutes. The turn of events is completely unpredictable and will induce claps and whistles in cinemas.

Ajay Devgn, as expected, delivers a stupendous performance. He nicely gets back into the skin of the character of Vijay and gives no reason to complain. Akshaye Khanna is a great addition to the franchise. He is a scene-stealer thanks to his characterization and performance. Tabu is restrained and very impressive. Shriya Saran, Ishita Dutta, and Mrunal Jadhav (Anu) are dependable. Kamlesh Sawant (Gaitonde) and Siddharth Bodke (David) leave a huge mark. Saurabh Shukla (Murad Ali) is damn good in a cameo. Rajat Kapoor, Neha Joshi, Nishant Kulkarni (Shiv; Jenny’s husband), Yogesh Soman (Inspector Vinayak), Sharad Bhutadia (Martin), Ashmita Jaggi (Mary) and others are decent.
Devi Sri Prasad's music is in sync with the film’s mood. The title track is great, followed by 'Sahi Galat'. 'Saath Hum Rahein' is forgettable. Devi Sri Prasad's background score is cinematic and exciting.

Sudhir Kumar Chaudhary's cinematography is creative and neat. Tarpan Shrivastava's production design is realistic. Navin Shetty, Sanam Ratansi, and Tanya Oak's costumes are straight out of life. Amin Khatib's action is not disturbing. Sandeep Francis's editing could have been crisper. The 142-minute-long film should have been shorter by 15-20 minutes.

On the whole, DRISHYAM 2 is a justified sequel and gives a paisa-vasool experience thanks to the performances, script, and applause-worthy climax. At the box office, it has the potential to open in double digits due to the tremendous anticipation amongst the viewers to find out what happens next in the life of Vijay Salgaonkar. In fact, an entry into the Rs. 100 crore club cannot be ruled out. Recommended!


The sequel to Drishyam, which is adapted from a Malayalam thriller of the same name, begins where the 2015 film had left off—Vijay Salgaonkar (Ajay Devgn) emerging from a police station carrying a shovel. Seven years ago, the almost-perfect crime had a witness, and that's what gives the police impetus and ammo to revisit the Sameer Deshmukh missing-case investigation so many years later.
Vijay is now a theatre owner who dreams of making a film based on a story he has written. His elder daughter Anju (Ishita Dutta) is still reeling from the shock of the traumatic events, while his younger daughter Anu (Mrunal Jadhav) is in her teens. Every member of the family, including his wife Nandini (Shriya Saran), is moving on with life as usual—but always on guard. And with a haunting sense of fear which never leaves them. A series of unexpected events turn the Salgaonkars' lives upside down when a truth threatens to change everything.
Even the support Vijay received from his community seven years ago, begins to dwindle as the plot unfolds, and they begin to question if he actually committed the crime. The film gathers up steam when the police investigation led by Inspector General of Police Tarun Ahlawat (Akshaye Khanna), and Sameer’s (who's accidental death in Drishyam formed of the crux of both the films) mother and former IG Meera (Tabu), swings into action. This time, they follow the leads without underestimating the protagonist.
Following a similar pattern like the first, helmed by the late Nishkant Kamat, here director Abhishek Pathak takes things slowly in the first half. The family’s dread and anxiety are palpable as he gradually builds the tension in the narrative. As the investigation progresses, every character serves a distinct purpose, and helps heighten the drama and suspense.
Ajay Devgn shines as a protective father who loves his family unconditionally; he is a simple man with a razor-sharp mind. Akshaye Khanna, who in the past has played a cop, in films like Mom and Ittefaq, lends much gravitas to these gripping proceedings. Tabu is simply outstanding as Meera, a mother seeking justice for her son. Rajat Kapoor shines as her husband who eagerly wants everything to be settled soon. Kamlesh Sawant reprises his role as Gaitonde, who is still ruthless and bloodthirsty for revenge. Shriya Saran, Ishita Dutta, and Mrunal Jadhav, who play other Salgaonkars, have almost similar roles as they had in the previous part. Saurabh Shukla as writer Murad Ali plays his part well to resolve the mystery.
Jeethu Joseph’s original story is skilfully adapted by Aamil Keeyan Khan and Abhishek Pathak. They deftly weave in multiple threads, leading to a stellar climax packed with numerous twists that are as good as the first film. While the first one undoubtedly had a certain novelty to it, the sequel stands strong too, it intrigues and entertains. The story here remains unpredictable for the most part, however, some of the setups seem contrived and some situations too far-fetched. Having said that, making a sequel to a very successful first part wherein most of the characters are the same is quite a challenge.
Amitabh Bhattacharya's song Sahi Galat that comes with the credits and the title track is upbeat. Saath Hum Rahein is slow but perfectly filmed to capture the bond family share. The background score by Rockstar DSP (Devi Sri Prasad) blends well and adds to the intensity of the drama.
Overall, Drishyam 2 dishes out plenty of twists and turns to keep you hooked throughout, just like its predecessor. And the story of the Salgaokars will continue to remain in public memory.

Bollywood isn’t really known for pulling off suspense thrillers, certainly not for sustaining the steam over a sequel. But, like Drishyam in 2015, Drishyam 2 lulls you with its modest settings, simple characters, human cops, and a family caught in events beyond its control, till it lands home its lesson a second time — it’s not important what’s before you; what is important is what you are seeing.

And what does the world see when it looks at Vijay Salgaonkar (Ajay Devgn)? A family man and father of two, who runs a local cable service and has an obsessive love for films, or just a “chauthi (Class 4) fail”, an illiterate man who doesn’t matter. It is certainly the latter that clouded the vision of Meera Deshmukh (Tabu), the IGP of Goa, last time, causing her to lose the battle of wits with Salgaonkar.
Drishyam 2 very deftly picks up from where these two main protagonists, both fierce parents, left off in Drishyam. The story is again by Jeethu Joseph, who also directed both the Malayalam versions. With the death of Nishikant Kamat, who directed the Bollywood remake of Drishyam, the reins of Drishyam 2 have passed on to Abhishek Pathak.

Almost all the characters from the first film make a reappearance, and the sequel is enriched by it. They largely show the effects of the past seven years – the Salgaonkars of keeping the terrible secret of a murder; and the Deshmukhs of living with the knowledge that the former got away with killing their only son, a wayward Sam. The only one who sticks out is Shriya Saran, playing Vijay’s wife in the same perfect hair and clipped saris, with eyes unshadowed but for kajal — the sleepless nights haunted by the murder that she talks about notwithstanding.

Words that spill out here and there, nervousness that can’t be kept at bay, stray talk in the town that won’t be silenced, doubts that trail the Salgaonkars, witnesses who put two and two together from that fateful night, all inch up to Sam’s body, which remained unfound last time.

So, as the clues irrevocably point towards his family, what will Vijay, who repeats that he can do everything and anything for them, do now?
The plan turns out to be elaborate, and as unexpected as it was in Drishyam. However, in its execution, it is not as smooth, requiring an incredulous breach of basic protocols by police, which would lead any competent judge to throw the case out, as well as a string of much-too-gullible people around Vijay. The remarkable change in his fortunes adds to the whiff of notoriety about him now.

The weakest link perhaps is Akshaye Khanna, as the new IG, Tarun. While Tabu brought moral authority, steely fortitude and mounting helplessness to her role in Drishyam, as a stern head of police who is also a desperate mother, Khanna is all snarky lines, glowering eyes and exaggerated mannerisms, with little at stake. Tarun is built up as this genius cop who broods long and hard at chess boards for company, but really only gets close to cracking the case due to a stroke of unexpected luck.

Tabu and Kapoor, as her businessman husband Mahesh Deshmukh, return as the grieving parents. Their roles are limited, but whenever she is there, watching, waiting, wincing, carrying the pain in the lines of her tired face, Tabu again owns this film.
Meera the cop didn’t see what was before her. But as even Vijay acknowledges, when it comes to Meera the mother, it’s hard to meet her eyes.

As a kid, I was always fascinated with jigsaw puzzles. It’s a three-step process that involves bringing together an intricate photograph which is laden with buried details and fine clues, cutting it into several unrecognisable pieces and assembling a jumble that carries a seemingly simple challenge, to fall in place.

Suspense thrillers are just the same. But very few films belonging to this genre are able to fit the pieces in the right place. And that’s what makes Drishyam 2, a remake of the 2021 Malayalam film of the same name, worthy of a good thriller.

Make no mistake, Drishyam 2 is not a perfect crime thriller. Any thriller needs to be gripping and put its audience at the edge of the seat experience. It is only in the last 40 minutes that the film picks up pace and leads us to one of the most engaging climaxes where it unravels one twist after the other.
Director Abhishek - who has helmed the Hindi version of the crime thriller has almost succeeded in creating the atmosphere by giving its own touch to the original version, and he almost succeeds.
In Drishyam 2, the story begins seven years after the crime has been committed. Vijay Salgaonkar (Ajay Devgn) has progressed from a humble cable TV operator to a theatre owner and has plans to produce a film.

His family Nandini, Anju and Anu played by Shriya Saran, Ishita Dutta and Mrunal Jhadav respectively are finding new ways to cope and move on from the dark incident, but society is anything but kind to them.

There are multiple references to Drishyam in its sequel. For instance, the incidents that happened on October 2 and October 3 which have become a meme have been used well by the makers to evoke laughter among the audience. Various theories of the incident continue to trigger discussions at the local tea stall, bus stop and among the people of Pondagaon.
Drishyam 2 doesn’t deviate from the original structure but there is a conscious effort to explain the strategy of Drishyam’s understated intelligence. The ploy more or less works because the events look convincingly premeditated in context of the alibi and as a result the characters better fleshed out

At its heart, the film is a story about a man who will do everything in his capacity to save his family. At the same time, it is a story about a mother who will also go to any lengths for his deceased son.

Does Vijay and his family get away with a crime they didn’t intend to commit? And even if they do, what is the director trying to imply yet again?

Pathak and his team of writers have probably considered all these criticisms well in advance and that is precisely why the arguments are woven in Vijay’s defense right from the beginning. Nowhere does Vijay or the characters that support him imply that a perfect crime exists or that you can get away with something so easily. But it does make you think.
As a viewer, it divides you between the heart and mind — between what is right and what you can possibly do about it, just like Vijay says to his wife in one of the scenes. It stirs up multiple debates.

Who deserves more justice? A mother who will go to any lengths to pin down their son’s murderer but at the same time, conceal his crime for their own benefit?

Or a family who has been socially stripped off their peace and happiness by an unfortunate incident that may continue to haunt them for the rest of their lives?

It helps that Pathak has a trio of dependable actors in key roles. Mohanlal set the bar high, but a valiant Devgn gives it his own fresh take. He brings in his knowledge as a filmmaker who knows more than the script. And his characteristic lack of inhibition blazes through its amazing climax scene.
Akshaye Khanna as Tarun Ahlawat, the Inspector General of Police, is at his usual best. He shines in every scene and leaves behind a big impression. Khanna as usual is the scene stealer. A scene where he goes to Sagonkar’s house where only the ladies of the house are present is superbly executed.

Even in her brief role, Tabu brings in the much-needed intensity that eventually holds the plot together. She is tough yet vulnerable. At one point, her eyes convey dismay, and the next second she gathers her toughness again to get justice for his son.

Overall, Drishyam 2 doesn’t feel nearly as tense or urgent as it ought to, and its plot simply isn’t as deliciously complex as it could’ve been. As a result, it’s a watchable film, but not an unforgettable one.?
