History of CityJet Airlines

CityJet Airline was introduced on 28 September 1992. It started operating scheduled flights on 12 January 1994. The airline was established by Pat Byrne and started operating between Dublin and London city airport under an agreement with Virgin Atlantic Airways. In July 1997, the airline began serving multiple routes by using its own identity, with Saab 2000 aircraft.

In its initial days, CityJet operated Paris to London city services on behalf of one of Air France. In May 1999, in partnership with Air Foyle Ireland, Air France acquired about 25 percent equity stake in the airline. In the year 2002, Air France assumed complete control. By that time, the airline started getting its market by the name of CityJet. At the end of March 2010, CityJet airlines carried more than a million passengers on its London City network. During the time, CityJet acquired a Belgian airline VLM, which is also specialized in London City services. Air France later sold CityJet to a German company called Intro Aviation. The airline was subsequently purchased by a business consortium led by the original founder, Pat Byrne.
