Teenagers today handle a growing list of everyday expenses on their own. Metro rides, school canteen payments, mobile recharges, cab fares, and online shopping have all become routine. Yet most teenagers still depend on cash or a parent’s phone to pay, which means borrowing devices, asking for OTPs, or sending QR codes just to complete a single transaction.
Paytm Pocket Money is built to fix exactly this. It allows teenagers to make Paytm UPI payments from their own phone, linked to a parent’s or trusted family member’s bank account, without needing a separate bank account of their own.
What is Paytm Pocket Money?
Paytm Pocket Money is a feature on the Paytm app that enables teenagers to make UPI payments without opening a separate bank account.
It works on NPCI’s UPI Circle framework. A parent or trusted family member authorises the teenager to make payments directly from the parent’s linked bank account, with a defined monthly spending limit and real-time visibility on every transaction. With this in place, teenagers can pay across millions of online and offline merchants using their own phone, without depending on cash, borrowing a parent’s device, or asking for OTPs.
How to Activate Paytm Pocket Money
Setting up Paytm Pocket Money takes less than two minutes. The parent or trusted family member completes the setup from their side, and the teenager accepts the invitation to activate access.
Step 1: Update the Paytm app to the latest version from the App Store or Play Store.
Step 2: Open the Paytm app and tap on ‘To Pay Anyone’, or type “Pocket Money” in the search bar.
Step 3: On the next screen, tap on ‘Pocket Money’ to begin setup.
Step 4: Choose the relationship type, either Child or Sibling, and tap on ‘Set Up Pocket Money’.
Step 5: Select the teenager’s contact from the list, enter their Aadhaar number, and tap Confirm to proceed.
Step 6: Set a monthly spending limit by choosing from the available options or entering a custom amount. The limit ranges from ₹100 to ₹15,000.
Step 7: Select your primary bank account and enter your Paytm UPI PIN to complete the setup.
Step 8: The teenager will receive an invitation on their Paytm app. They must accept it to activate Paytm Pocket Money on their device.
Note: If the ‘Pocket Money’ option is not visible, update the Paytm app to the latest version from the App Store or Play Store and reopen the app.
